New Home XL-II
This superb quality machine was made when Janome machine were sold in the UK under the New Home brand and was at the top of their range at the time.
It has several clever features which make for easier use. Push a small button on the top and a stitch adviser pops up. Slide the small indicator to the stitch you require, push the same button again and a second cover pops up to reveal a compartment with all the presser feet and attachments all in thier own slots. The indicator you set before now show which foot you need for the stitch, they are all identified by letters stamped on the foot and next to their slots. There are 14 feet and attachments in the compartment.
The machine has a convertible needle plate, setting the dial sets it with a slot for zigzag stitches or a round hole for straight stitch. There is also a twin needle setting, which limits the zigzag width so as not to break the twin needle. The same dial also sets the needle to left, middle or right position.
Ther is a drop feed setting, for free motion quilting, embroidery and darning.
There are 27 stitch patterns built in including basting, plus automatic buttonhole and chain stitch (using a converter which replaces the bobbin case).
An extension table is supplied for when the free arm is not needed and, when folded, this stays on the machine when the case is fitted. This is an elegant hard case in cream with stylish leathrette panels and handle. The case conceals another ingenious feature, a lid at the top lifts off to reveal a spacious compartment with a place to store bobbins, a pin cushion and compartments for extra accessories, threds etc.
The foot control has a 'fast/slow' switch, allowing the machine to be run mor slowly for intricate sewing.
All in all a really great machine.
